Slavica Singer receives European Entrepreneurship Education Award (EEEA) 2021!

Professor Slavica Singer, J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, Croatia, has been appointed 2021 year’s recipient of European Entrepreneurship Education Award (EEEA).


Slavica Singer is Professor Emeritus of Entrepreneurship at the J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, Croatia. Her working experience started in the corporate sector and was followed by her university career from 1973 till retirement in 2012. In 2000 she and her team became pioneers in research-based entrepreneurship education in Croatia by starting the first graduate program in entrepreneurship. In 2010 the doctoral program Entrepreneurship and Innovativeness was initiated as a result of the collaborative efforts of five universities (Osijek, Croatia; Turku, Finland; Maribor, Slovenia; Klagenfurt, Austria and Durham, UK). Besides students from Croatia, there are doctoral students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Greece, Kosovo, Nigeria, South Africa. Those efforts were appraised as one of the 20 best practices in the EU in a survey published by the European Commission in 2015. 

From 2002 she has been leading the Croatian Global Entrepreneurship Monitor research team. From 1996 Slavica has been leading activities related to developing a local and national entrepreneurship. In the last 15 years she participated in various EU-funded projects related to entrepreneurship education. She is a member of the Croatian Competitiveness Council, Club of Rome - Croatian Chapter and board member of the European Council of Small Business. Slavica is often engaged by the OECD as consultant/expert in the field of reviewing national policies on entrepreneurship and inclusivity. 

For her contributions to the development of university-based entrepreneurship education, she was awarded with the UNESCO Chair in Entrepreneurship Education in 2008, and in 2010 with an honorary doctorate by the University of Turku, Turku School of Economics. In December 2020 she received the Entrepreneurship Education Award 2021.

The award will be presented at a digital award ceremony during the European Entrepreneurship Education Workshop 2021, held online 22-23 April, where Professor Slavica Singer will also be a keynote speaker.

Motivation for Slavica Singer

Professor Slavica Singer, J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, Croatia, has played a central role in the development of local and national entrepreneurship education and ecosystems in resource-scarce contexts. Throughout her career she has relentlessly sought to mobilise resources and worked to develop collaborative networks across Europe to advance entrepreneurship education as well as frameworks for entrepreneurial skills. She has been a strong promoter of young entrepreneurship scholars, and an important contributor to the community of entrepreneurship scholars in Europe. Given the invaluable impact on the development of entrepreneurship education both nationally and internationally, Slavica Singer is undoubtedly a worthy recipient of the 2021 European Entrepreneurship Educator Award.
